A 'Chippendale Gothick' partner's desk in English oak, by R & G Kirkham, Melbourne (stamped), early 20th century, the rectangular inverted breakfront top above a pair of pedestals with frieze drawers and cabinet doors to both sides, and with a secret compartment on right hand side at base, richly moulded and carved throughout. The drawer linings in huon pine, 81.5 cm high, 163 cm wide, 91 cm deep. Provenance: Presented to A.H. Sargood by Stephenson Shipping, circa 1920. Other Notes: R & G Kirkham were regarded as high class cabinet makers. Their premises, located at 22 Latrobe parade, Melbourne was built by C. Langford in 1903.
