A Lobi figure, Burkina Faso. This figure is a bateba figure used by Thila (spirits) to protect omes and territories from harm. The figure is carved from wood and has been coloured with a brown pigment. The form is shapely with a large buttocks and stomach. There is a faint smile on the figures face.
