A Biwat mask, Yuat river Papua New Guinea, a sacred flute mask. Carved from wood with black clay facial features and inset nassa shells. Boar tusks protruding from the nose. Raffia edging to the mask and cassowary feathers at the brow. Coloured with black and white pigment. Formerly of the Christianson collection in Australia. Height 46 cm, width 38 cm, depth 24 cm
