Description:
A mask, Timbunke village, Sepik River, carved from a hardwood. The mask has a elongated form with hooked beak inspired by hornbill birds. Large cowrie shells depict the eyes of the mask and the nose features large boar tusks. A rich red toned clay has been built up around the mask and embedded with cowrie shells. Natural pigments of white, red, and black. Cassowary feathers feature at the top of the mask and at the bottom is a carved crocodile head. Length 95 cm, width 19 cm, depth 11.2 cm
