A black water river mask, middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea, made from a hessian sack that is supported with sticks that ave been lashed together. The mask has been decorated with black, red, and white paint in geometric repeating triangle patterns. The eyes and mouth are slit openings, and the mouth exposes jagged white teeth. The opening edges of the mask has fringe of dried plant fibres. Height 54 cm, width 31 cm, depth 27 cm
