A Chinese famille rose 'Butterfly and Melon' wall vase (Qianlong Nian Zhi mark). Wall vases, sometimes called wall pockets or sedan chair vases, were one of the Qianlong Emperor's favourite articles, and there remain to this day, some 320 examples in the Palace Museum, Beijing. The Qianlong emperor frequently wrote or ordered poetry panels, of excellent quality.
