A male Bulul figure made of wood from the Ifugao mountain tribe of northern Luzon Philippines. Bulul?s are used as gradians of the rice crops and are highly stylised representations of ancestors and thought to gain power and wealth from ancestral spirits. This Bulul was acquired in situ in 1976 and purchased by the owner in 1977. The hair style is common to figures of some Ifugao tribes and the hole in the head often held fragments of an ancestor?s hair. The eyes have shell fragments and both ears have holes for decorative purposes. Some erosion and insect damage late 19th century, 44 cm height 14 cm width
