Lyonel Grant (ngati Pikiao Te Arawa), a large and impressive hoe (paddle), the upper section carved with a figure of Papatuanuku conjoined with another figure with Ranginui, the sky father carved at the top of the handle. The blade with a figure of Tane above a marakihau. All inset with paua shell eyes. Made in the late 1970s, Lyonel Grant has exhibited nationally and internationally.
