Northern Territory: The 1883 Expedition to Locate 'Sturt's Tree', Dec.10th 1883 four-page letter headed 'Palmerston' and addressed 'The Acting Government Resident, Palmerston; written by James P. Hingston, Surveyor, in which he provides a day-by-day description of the trip 'which I am glad to report was successful.' The letter is accompanied by a map, dated 13/12/83, signed by him and titled 'Rough Sketch Shewing approximate position of J.M.D. Stuart's last marked tree. [Nb: Although complete, all four pages of the letter have split down the middle with no loss of text.], Also accompanying the letter and map are reprinted pages from the book 'Digging, Squatting, and Pioneering Life in The Northern Territory of South Australia' by Mrs. D.D. Daly [Sampson, Low, et al. 1887] in which the expedition is fully described.
