A rare GIA certified loose natural green cushion cut diamond, of reported weight 1.09 carats. Graded as Fancy Intense Green colour, VS1 clarity. GIA reference number 2135822872. Fancy colour diamonds are the rarest of the rare. Each is one of a kind and with only one in every 10,000 diamonds found to be fancy colour. Coloured diamonds have a special allure, and rare natural color green diamonds may be the most intriguing of them all. Highly sought after and highly prized, their colour is a result of exposure to radiation during their formation deep in Earth's crust for millions of years. Gamma rays or particles cause a change in their crystalline structure, creating color centers that absorb red and blue light, allowing primarily green light to be seen when one observes the stone. The colour green has long become associated with spring, vitality and fertility, with green diamonds taking on the symbolisim of new beginnings.
