Since ancient times, the dragonfly has been a popular Japanese symbol of victory, and it was a frequent design motif on the helmets, swords and armour of Samurai warriors. Depicted alongside the Dragonfly on this limited edition Namiki fountain pen is the Lotus plant. The lotus is said to have grown and blossomed from a single root that lay buried for two thousand years. When cut in slices, the stalk of the plant is filled with holes with ancient are said to symbolize an open pathway to the future and so, like the dragonfly, it too is a motif that is thought to bring good fortune. Brought together, the transient yet powerful life force of the lotus and the victorious Kachimushi symbolize courage, hope and renewal. The Namiki Kachimushi has been created in very limited edition of 150. The base is the andukari Royale size, decorated with both Taka (raised) Maki-e Togidashi Maki-e (burnished) and techniques by master craftsman Masahiro. The Taka Maki-e dragonfly hovers above the lotus on Raden (mother-of-pearl wings), delicate and lifelike, and the elegant flower itself is depicted in vivid color. The scene is set with leaves and water expressed in Togidashi Maki-e, giving the design to rich, evocative depth. In addition, the Taka-Maki-e dragonfly motif on the neck adds a further special touch to this one-of-a-kind fountain pen. The two-toned Rhodium accented 18ct gold nib, with a piston-style converter, guarantee the finest writing quality and long life. The Namiki Kachimushi is presented in a luxurious lacquer box presentation, with a traditional Kisotsuishu lacquer lid.
