Early shield with fire tool markings, Central Desert Region, Northern Territory, carved beanwood and natural pigments (with custom stand) shield of softwood, oval in form with rounded ends and a handle carved from solid form level with surface. It has inwardly curving surfaces. There is continuous incised fluting on both surfaces. It is pigmented. Length 61 x 18.5 cm. Provenance: Collected 1880-1900 Jeff Fischer, Adelaide.
