A large Chinese blue and white vase, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), transitional, of tall baluster form, only partly decorated in underglaze blue, originally intended to have further enamel decoration. The foot flat and unglazed. Metal bound rim, 45 cm high, 16 cm diameter. Provenance: Purchased in Thailand, 1949-1952 or 1963-1968, Allan Henry Loomes Obe (1917-1990), and thence by descent. Allan Loomes was Australian Consul-General to Thailand (1949-1952) and Australian Ambassador to Burma (1958-1961), Thailand (1963-1968), south Korea (1968-1971), and Venezuela and Peru (1974-1978).
