A large Chinese Longquan celadon dish, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), 14th century, the thickly potted dish with upright sides, covered in a deep sea green glaze, with carved Buddhist visvajra motif to the centre, 4.5 cm high, 28 cm diameter. Provenance: Purchased in Thailand, 1949-1952 or 1963-1968, Allan Henry Loomes Obe (1917-1990), and thence by descent. Allan Loomes was Australian Consul-General to Thailand (1949-1952) and Australian Ambassador to Burma (1958-1961), Thailand (1963-1968), south Korea (1968-1971), and Venezuela and Peru (1974-1978).
