Carbine': Pedigree chart: printed semi-circular chart likely issued as a supplement to the 'Australian Star' newspaper (Sydney), showing a detailed pedigree of the New Zealand-bred champion thoroughbred, accounting for over 2000 ancestors dating back to the early 18th century, accompanied by a listing of all his racing performances in New Zealand and Australia. Around the chart are numerous contemporaneous advertisements including Mephan Ferguson's 'Refrigerating and ice Making Machines' and Herr Rasmussen's 'Alfaline Vitality Pills', the chart has paper splits along folds and some wrinkling, framed & glazed, overall 113 x 87.5 cm. Only one other example is known in the Museums Victoria Collection. Carbine' achieved a career record of 33 wins from 43 starts winning 17 of his last 18 races including the 1890 Melbourne Cup, setting a race record time whilst giving away 24kg to the second-placed horse 'Highborn'.
