Chinese Qing Dynasty 'As New' 3rd rank civil badge c.1860, of slight rectangular form, depicting a peacock amongst flowers, with geometric border, heavily embroidered with gold and silver thread, also in tones of pink and green, 21.5 cm x 25 cm catalogue note: towards the end of the Qing Dynasty badges were sold with the birds and the backgrounds separately. This was a very practical solution as when the person achieved a higher rank it was simply a matter of changing the bird. Provenance: collection of Judith Rutherford
