A Chinese mottled celadon jade libation cup, Ming Dynasty, 17th century of elongated form, carved and pierced with tied lotus stems and leaves forming the handle and foot, with Gregory collection paper label 17 12.5 cm long. King George I of the Hellenes descended from King Christian IX of Denmark, who was variously described as the 'Father-in-law' and 'Grandfather' of Europe. He was the father of King Frederik VIII of Denmark, Queen Alexandra (wife of King Edward VII) and Princess Dagmar, who became Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia, and many Royal dynasties descended from him.
