A suite of gilt silver filigree headdress and hairpins, Possibly Liao dynasty with box, the headdress extended 20.0 cm wide, the hairpins 10.0 cm and 12.5 cm long (5). In traditional Chinese female hairdress designs, top knots are usually accompanied by a decorative band, called huadian, or flower band. According to the imperial edict, it is to be used together with a phoenix-crown. Informally, it can also be used by itself. The decorative 'flowers' and 'phoenixes' in this flower band are made separately and later applied to the band. Their manufacturing technique, style, and size also allude to the usage of pieces in the Hsiao-family Collection. The 'flower' piece in lot 9 and the 'phoenix' pieces in lot 10 most likely were used on such flower bands
