A Japanese Meiji period vase modelled as an ikebana basket, of square section baluster shape with basket weave ground, with high relief cast and chiselled decoration to the faces including a cicada and nymph on a pea pod and tendril. Other sides include flowers, insects, a spider and a snail. Slender bamboo sections form the feet, the two handles, and frame the body margins. Cast three-character signature under the base, height 32.5 cm.
