A rare 19th century New Zealand silver fireman's gallantry medal, stamped maker's mark to rim 'Brown' (probably Geo. Brown, Harrison Place, Wanganui), presentation engraved recto from the Wanganui City Council to T.E. Thompson, 1891; obverse with a unique engraved pictorial of an axe wielding fireman upon a ladder. Suspension bar and hinged pin back. See online newspaper clipping image. The UFBA presented him a medal for this act but it is not inconceivable that he was given other awards also. Note that the act took place in March 1890, but they did not make an award until September 1891.
