Description:
Two rare Lao ceremonial lacquer betel nut or rice baskets, 19th/Early 20th century, both of woven substrate covered in lacquer and gilding, with woven cotton brocade straps. One decorated with cowrie shells on the feet, the other with butterfly shaped feet and glass disks. Each approximately 13 cm high, 23 cm diameter. Provenance: acquired in Vientiane, Laos on 3 January 1994.
