A pair of Chinese inscribed mirror image fencai/famille rose vases, Republic period (1912-1949) or early P.R.O.C. Period, the vases decorated in mirror image with a seated monk reading from a text, bat flying overhead. Each vase inscribed with a poem and signature. Iron red seal mark to base in zhuanshu (seal script). Each 19.5 cm high, 11.5 cm diameter. Provenance: an old Melbourne collection formed by the vendor's father around 1950 to 1970, and thence by descent.
