An Indonesian basalt Fragmentary head of Buddha, central Java, circa 9th-10th century, the fragmentary carving beautifully detailed with serene face, tightly curled hair, and high domed ushnisha. Mounted on a gunmetal-grey metalic stand. The head 30 cm high, 18 cm wide. With stand 48 cm high. Provenance: by repute, T. McAllister collection, United Kingdom. Collected in situ in the 1960s.
