The right Honorable Phillip Lynch, Minister for Industry & Commerce (and Deputy Leader of the Liberal party) presentation bronze medal (231gms, 76 mm) from Juanita M. Kreps, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, to commemorate Lynch's June 1979 visit to the United States. In original box of presentation. Clara Juanita Morris Kreps (1921 – 2010) served as the United States Secretary of Commerce from January 23, 1977 until October 31, 1979, under President Jimmy Carter and was the first woman and first economist to hold that position. She was only the fourth woman to hold any cabinet position in the United States executive branch. Lynch was elected deputy leader of the Liberal party in 1972, serving first under Billy Snedden and later under Malcolm Fraser. He became Treasurer when the Liberals returned to power in 1975, but had to resign after two years due to a perceived conflict of interest. He was then Minister for Industry and Commerce until his retirement due to ill health in 1982.
