A Royal Geographical Society medal. This is a rare opportunity to take possession of a Royal Geographical Society, David Livingstone Bearer's silver medal. With as few as ten in current circulation of which four are housed within institutions around the world. This medal was retrospectively awarded to the African bearer's, who carried the body of David Livingstone to the coastal town of Bagamoyo in-order to repatriate his remains back to England. Engraved on one side of the medal is 'Presented by the Royal Geographical Society of London 1874' and on the reverse side is a likeness of Livingstone. This medal is engraved on the edge with 'M Guizi Faithful to the End'. The medal is in good condition. However, there are some small minor edge marks and dents. Diameter 37 mm. Weight 24.1 grams.
