A French musical automaton, attributed to Xavier Tharin, circa 1870, of rectangular form, the lithographic scene depicting an Italian coastal village scene. The large key-wind Swiss music box no. 6318, with clock work automaton movement. The movement activates: nodding friar reading in a tower room, musician nodding his head as he strums a lute and taps his foot, twisting glass rod in the fountain, a lady sewing by the harbor wall, a rocking ship in the foreground, two more tossing on rolling waves on the middle ground, a steamer and a sailing vessel crossing the horizon and the flag on the watchtower fluttering in the wind. 64 cm high, 82 cm wide, 17 cm deep
