18ct gold and lemon quartz ring, Anina, circa 1960, centring a claw-set oval lemon quartz measuring approximately 34 mm x 31 mm supported from an openwork gallery modelled as branches of sea coral to a half hoop of continuous bark design, the lemon quartz weighing approximately 130 carats, gross weight 96 grams, size O1/2. Provenance: The Estate of the late Patti David, Sydney. Other Notes: Niina Ots (formerly Ratsep, nee Taevere) (1909-2003), was an Estonian-Australian jeweller. A pioneer in modernism, in 1957 she set up a business, Anina with Anna Louise Alma at 21 Rowe Street, Sydney. That same year Darani Lewers (born 1936) apprenticed with Niina, before moving to Copenhagen, Denmark in1958 to train with Helge Larsen. On her return to Sydney, in 1961 Darani and Helge formed a partnership. Anina closed in 1967 and Niina moved to Melbourne where she continued to work.
