A French brass mounted Thuya and mahogany occasional table by Escalier de Cristal, Paris, circa 1895, the rectangular top with canted corners and brass mounted edge, the frieze with conforming inlay and a slide to either side, on slender rectangular sectioned tapering legs supporting an undertier and terminating in leaf and paw cast sabots, stamped to the underside Escalier de Cristal Paris, height 76 cm, width 81 cm, depth 51 cm. Other Notes: 'L'Escalier de Cristal' (the crystal Staircase) was a famous furnishing boutique that traded from a gallery in the Palais Royale in Paris from 1802 and in other locations in Paris until 1923. Founded by Mme Desarnaud-Charpentier it specialised in innovative objets de luxe, gilt mounted and crystal furniture. Patronised by the French Royal Family and nobility the firm continued through the 19th century under other owners and won many awards at the international exhibitions of the time.
