Fine pair of plantain scrapers, Markham valley, Papua New Guinea. Cassowary bone banana scraper with classic wedge-shaped ancestral face depicting an ancestor in stylized form. These spoons were used to scrape the skin from the baked plantain, a sort of non-sweet banana. Carved and engraved cassowary bone. Provenance: Collected by K. Trueman, Queensland, Australia, 1960s.
