Provenance: The Estate of Emilia Stella, Milan, Italy, acquired in Beijing or Shanghai between 1850 and 1870 (letter of provenance, Mossgreen). The current lot was a part of the Estate of Emilia Stella, whose great-great grandfather was based in Beijing and Shanghai between 1850 and 1870, where he held a high diplomatic position. According to the letter of provenance, it would have been at this time that he acquired the important Chinese artworks in his collection.
