A qingbai 'wave' gourd-shaped ewer, Song dynasty, 12th century. 15.5 cm high. Provenance: R & V Tregaskis Oriental Art, Sydney. A few associated pieces from different kilns have been published. The most closely related, both in form and size, is probably a qingbai ewer in the British Museum, with more elongated shape, and similar treatment of the base albeit with less care (museum number 1947,0712.82.a). Also compare a larger ewer, of more pronounced upper and lower bulbs, see J.J. Lally, Chinese Porcelain and Silver in the Song Dynasty, 2002, (cover lot) cat. no. 24. R & V Tregaskis Oriental Art
