Exquisite Japanese Meiji period tortoise shell and shibayama bowl, by Kaneko sei, c.1890, of deep rounded form, the interior finely decorated in gilt with central roundel featuring applied mother of pearl and jade peonies, butterfly and bird, set within a body of stylised birds and scroll work, with repeating key fret border to the rim, the exterior rim decorated with repeating geometric border with butterflies,the whole raised on a short circular foot, with signed panel to base, height 6.5 cm and diameter 12.5 cm, together with a fine customised black lacquer tripod stand with applied mother of pearl flowers, with hand painted two character mark in red to underside, stand height 7 cm, with original sandalwood case with sliding cover
