Beautiful Chinese Qing Dynasty zitan Merchants box and cover, of rectangular form, in zitan, black wood and rosewood, the 'Box is fully fitted for calligraphy, with addition of scales, abacus, and many tools of trade. The top tray has two layers consisting of three lidded compartments with engraved perforated lids, two lead lined and one including a water dropper. There is a tray included with two ink stones with three grooved spaces, probably for ink sticks. Two brushes are in this level, each with a cover over it. Beneath the brush tray are three baton like accessories with brass pins. These appear to be a style of ruler. Under the writing tablet section is a fitted tray including a brass scale, with one pan and separate weight, two piece hammer, a pair of scissors, pen knife, a pen knife, and a stiletto . Beneath all these items is a space including abacus and a folding frame,' 8 cm x 30 cm x 16.5 cm.
