A Very Important Carved Box (Antarctic History) which was presented to Matt (Matthias) Andresen of Foxton for caring for the sick dogs which arrived in Wellington from England, and which were too ill to proceed to the Antarctic with the Scott Expedition. Beautifully carved on the lid 'British Antarctic Expedition - Terra Nova' and the dates on the side 1910 -1913. Probably carved by the ship's carpenter. Length 19 cm. H.7.5 cm. W.13 cm.
