An elegant William Seuffert domed glove box incorporating a range of patterns used on other Seuffert pieces but never previously seen in this format. William Seuffert specialized in making small decorative boxes of approximately the same size but widely varying in marquetry design, the original condition and strong colour retention of this box makes it a valuable addition to the Seuffert catalogue of works. As the name implies, glove boxes were made to store small clothing items or possibly valuable mementos. In 1875 these boxes were advertised for sale at 3 pounds. (Information provided by Brian Peet). Length 29.5 cm
