A George III mahogany and amaranth cross-banded secretaire bookcase, probably by Gillows of Lancaster the arched cornice above a pair of astragal glazed door enclosing adjustable shelves, above a secretaire drawer enclosing an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes, above three graduated drawers, raised on ogee bracket feet, 110 cm wide, 56 cm deep, 240 cm high. Note This piece is typical of the workshops of Gillows of Lancaster who were renowned for their use of amaranth as a banding with either satinwood or mahogany
