7 inch radius brass framed sextant, circa 1870, marked on the arc 'Peacock, Auckland', rosewood handle, polished brass and inlaid silver scale from -5º to 155º, silver vernier divided 0-10 with swivel magnifier, milled screw adjuster and replacement clamp, 4 shades (green, amber, red, red), 3 horizon shades (red, red, blue (cracked)), fitted in later plywood keystone box with 7 inch telescope. Note: Peacock, a Glaswegian optician and instrument maker emigrated to Auckland in 1862 and operated from Shortland Street until election to the Council subsequently becoming Mayor and an M.P.
