16 inch radius ebony arm and limb octant, unknown maker, c.1800, ivory plaque on the crossbar, ivory scale divided -5 to 95, brass index arm engraved with boats and flowering tendrils, ivory vernier scale 0 at the centre, thumbscrew lock absent, vanes and shades absent, capped pencil absent. Object and horizon glasses absent, adjustment of the horizon glasses by levers, wing nuts and milled clamping screws. Support struts absent. Provenance: The H.N.E Sheppard Estate Collection.
