Good Australian 19th century portrait miniature in a silver case, hand painted image dated 17th Aug 1849, hallmarked for R. Lamb. A settler from London, Richard Lamb was a Sydney jeweller and silversmith from November 1838, initially as partner in the firm Irving, Lamb & Co. The partnership, now under the name of Richard Lamb & Co, was dissolved in January 1842. Lamb was declared insolvent in 1844 but he advertised in 1851 as ' Richard Lamb, Watch and Clockmaker, Manufacturing Jeweller...454 George Street'. A few objects have been identified as made by Lamb including a silver cup for the Goulburn Races of 1848 (now lost) and a pap boat held in the Museum of applied Art & Science.
