A late 19th / early 20th century Maori woven candlewick korowai cloak, adorned with yarn hukahuka (thrums), collar of woollen thrums, bordered with decorative domestic fowl feathers and coloured wool edging. Gifted to our vendor's grandfather c.1906 for training Taumaranui Maori community youth in agricultural practice. 118 x 103 cm. Along with a taniko woven border/sash piece, worked in muka and black embroidery thread. 85 x 5.7 cm. Registered Y21080 and Y21087.
