Presentation of her Majesty's yacht 'Emperor' to the emperor of Japan at Yeddo, on the 26th of August 1858...' chromolithograph, from a sketch by F. Le B. Bedwell - T.G. Dutton, chromolithograph. Visible image: 38 x 56 cm. Framed and glazed, extensively repaired and a small area of paper loss in lower margin., hallmarked sterling emperor was presented to the Tokugawa administration by James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin, as a present for the emperor from Queen Victoria to commemorate the signing of the Anglo-Japanese Treaty of Amity and Commerce. The ship was renamed 'Banryu' and had a mostly military career.
