A rare 18th century Scottish basket hilt sword, the 92.7 cm double-edge blade with two broad fullers on each face, both engraved with Scottish saying. Iron hilt of the form, circa 1700-1740 with bead tipped ovoid pommel. Leather covered grip. 109 cm overall length. No scabbard. A rare survivor that May have seen the Jacobite rising of 1745 or the Battle of Culloden 1746. Together with a letter of provenance dated back to circa 1900 'It was found in a Wanganui curio shop by Mrs Robertson....Every indication points to this weapon being with a member of the constabulary.'.
