Artist unknown (Australian school), portrait of Senior Sergeant Harry Dalton, New South Wales Police, Governor's Escort, charcoal and coloured chalk on toned paper, in an oak and gilt composition frame, 40 x 33 cm. Other Notes: Harry Dalton was born in London in 1832, and served in Crimea and turkey at Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastapol taking part in the Charge of the light Brigade. He also served in India at the Siege of Kotah, recapture of Chundaree Kotah Ki Seari, capture of Gwalior Powrie, Sindwah and Koonoyr. He spent twenty five years in charge of the Governor's Escort in New South Wales and died in Balgowlah, Sydney in 1891.
