Georgian & later ephemera Kirkland & Rhodes family to include period paintings, letters, royal warrant, envelopes, scrap book, staff ledger etc, Eight family paintings in gilt frames mostly around 1820, including: 1. Lord Charles Arbuthnot companion to the Duke of Wellington. Image 11.5 by 9 cm. 2. Hand painted lady, similar age to Arbuthnot. 3. Moustached gentlemen similar to previous. 4. Gilt framed portrait miniature of Sir John Kirkland receiver of rent for bailwich of St. James Westminster, C, 1839 see warrant. 5. Georgian portrait miniature of a boy, in an brass frame. Identity unknown. 6. 1866 portrait of John Kirkland RN, noted verso, eldest son of Colonel Kirkland, died of Asiatic cholera 1866. Signed and dated beneath image,. 7. Gilt framed miniature of a gentleman. Frame in poor condition. 8, Gilt framed lady matching previous, marked in pencil verso, Grandmother Kirkland, date looks like 1844... Military Staff appointments book 1846.. Scrap book from 1869.. Kirkland Family Tree... Charles Arbuthnot was a close friend of the family.. Charles had two wives, the first was lady in waiting to Caroline of Bruswick, the second wife was Harriet Fane, a society hostess and writer possibly Wellingtons mistress. Family had connections in India and a number of letters are from there and also Jamaica.
