An 18th century snuff box of silver framed Canton carved mother-of-pearl, the walls, hinged lid and base all of luminous iridescent shell, each superbly carved in low relief with a ribbon outlined cartouche of scale pattern on a field engrailed diagonally. The silver mounts unmarked, possibly French, c.1770. 8.1 x 4.2 x 4.2 cm
