1957 Sandover Medal: 9ct gold with football and text 'Sandover/Medal', the back engraved 'GFarmer, 1957', some glue residue on the reverse. [In 1957 Jack Clarke of East Fremantle and Graham Farmer of East Perth tied on 19 votes. Jack Clarke was awarded the medal on a countback. In 1997, Graham Farmer was one of ten players - the earliest being in 1921, the first year the medal was awarded - who had lost in this fashion & who were retrospectively awarded the Sandover Medal] It is our professional opinion, supported by previous results for such awards, that medals awarded retrospectively are equal to or only slightly less important/valuable than those awarded at the time. We see no difference between the current practice of awarding multiple medals in the event of a tie, and the belated recognition of the unfairness of the countback system.
