An original Charlotte Perriand Berger stool, designed in 1953, France. Low tripod circular stool crafted in solid oak with splayed legs. Charlotte Perriand is best known for the furniture she designed with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in the 1920s but her later work was equally innovative and highly influential. She worked with Fernand Leger and Jean Prouve until, in 1940, she travelled to Japan. Her experience in Asia affected her designs and the materials she used, experimenting with wood. This particular stool was inspired by the French shepherds in the Alps who used this kind of stools to milk the herds. The form is refined, stripped-back from any embellishments, privileging an ergonomic design, enhancing the beauty of the bare smooth wood, height 27 cm, diameter 31 cm
