A Japanese Kyoyaki vase, Meiji period (1868-1912), circa 1880s, the vase of squat baluster form with two ears at opposing sides of the neck, with piped slip decoration all over in the Chinese Fahua style, decorated with a phoenix in flight surrounded by clouds and precious Buddhist objects, the whole covered in coloured enamel glazes, 21 cm high, 18 cm diameter. Hairline crack to the mouth rim.
