Five drawer chest of small square proportions, a refined and Important first period Hepplewhite inspired early colonial bracket foot cedar five drawer chest of small square proportions Tasmanian, Hobart, the timber used is pit sawn (see rear) and dense quality. Georgian square proportions, the top board is secured by a long single dovetailed housing. All the drawer bottoms are cross braced and the dust boards are framed all round, the panelled back has a pegged construction. Drawer stoppers to rear, fine dovetails, reeded top and bottom, original pure ebony tear drop escutcheons, pure ebony concentric ring turned handles (later). Hairline cock-bead to the drawer fronts. A significant find in early Tasmanian cabinet making for its pure uncomplicated form in the Hepplewhite manner (unadorned) and proportion.
