A refined and important Neo-classical early colonial cedar bookcase Tasmanian, Circa 1825 104 x 218 x 40 cm With architectural acrotia pediment above multi-paned top doors, thirteen panes to each side, in the Georgian manner, adjustable shelves, the bottom paneled doors enclose two fiddle back panelled cedar drawers with original brass bail handles and a napery drawer. The acrotia design was made popular by Sheraton's Drawing Book of 1802 and Smiths Designs for Household Furniture (1808). The glazing bar pattern is recorded in Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-maker's Director M.Dccliv and has been found in other early Tasmanian cabinet furniture including the secretaire bookcase in this catalogue.
